The zombie apocalypse has taken place. A young soldier is part of a bad-ass military unit with 8 hardened, experience soldiers. However, the unit doesn't fare well against the overwhelming number of zombies. The young man soon finds himself alone when he encounters a family that shares his military background and were prepared for disaster. Can he stay with them? Are they all sane? Will emotional connections prove to be their downfall? What is going on with the soldier's mind? Is there hope for a cure? Or will this poor soldier be a stray for good?

Don't Leave This Stray Without A Viewing Home

The Stray is the first zombie movie from Open Sign Productions, and it succeeds in the area of the zombie genre that I really like--a detailed character study. The acting is fantastic in here. The narration by Jon Leatherman was fantastic and actually helped carry the story forward rather than just being a cover for telling background information. The story itself was very well done with a number of surprising twists and turns. The make-up was good. And the camera didn't linger on any one zombie for too long when the make-up wasn't hugely elaborate. The ending had some mysteries to it, but it works and it opens up a number of intriguing possibilities. The only drawback to The Stray was that the pacing slowed down after the soldier meets the survivalist family. Still, The Stray is an excellent indie zombie film that merits a rating of 8 out of 10.
