”Slay With Pride. Kill With Prejudice.“

19th Century England is a far different place as a zombie apocalypse has taken place. London has been isolated by deep moats, high walls, and one bridge. The gentry remain in the country. In Hertfordshire, the young ladies of the Bennet family have been trained to be ninja warriors to kill the zombies. Colonel Darcy arrives in the area, appearing to be immensely arrogant. He falls for Elizabeth Bennet who does not take an immediate liking to him. The young women still try to find relationships even as they fight and kill zombies. Why are there some zombies that can talk? Can they ever find happiness? Or are they all doomed?

A Mixed-Up Mish-Mash Mess Managing Moderate Movie Magic

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies took many years to make as a movie. It was one I was looking forward to. I ended up enjoying it, but not nearly as much as I had hoped. Having read the book, I was hoping the feature film would capture the satirical brilliance that the book possessed in adding zombies to Pride And Prejudice. Unfortunately, the film version just doesn't manage to rise to that level. The movie certainly isn't bad with a lot of great action scenes and martial arts battles. There are some funny moments to it as well. The acting was good. There were great visuals, such as the image of London burning. The blood and gore was limited, but that was to be expected. The plot, however, never quite manages to rise above just slightly above average. The main problem is that the characters don't really get to develop much. The novel lets us directly into the mind of Elizabeth Bennet, which isn't very easy to replicate. Both Elizabeth and Darcy do get character development, but the others are largely regulated to the background. They are just there. This lack of development is especially bad when it comes to the other sisters, as when some things might happen to them, it's hard to care as much without the character development. Many of the characters aren't all that likeable, which limits emotional attachment. The other major issue is that the plot seems to be muddled, including elements that weren't present in the novel. I can't help but wonder if they took material from the other two books in the series. The plots seemed to start and stop sometimes, or were simply eliminated. The book, for example, had a rivalry between Elizabeth and Lady Catherine. That's not really played up much here. Where did all this stuff about intelligent zombies come from? It doesn't add anything to the movie. Most of all, I really missed the vicious satire of the novel that the people didn't pay attention to the potential dangers around them. Ultimately, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies isn't anywhere near as good as it could have been. I give the movie a rating of 6 out of 10.
