Raising A Good Book

Daryl Gregory does an excellent job with Raising Stony Mayhall. In fact, Gregory accomplishes a genuine rarity--a truly original zombie novel. It's quite fascinating to imagine a zombie baby growing up. The notion of zombies possessing intelligent has been done before, but a zombie child growing up is quite unique. The story is told quite well from Stony's point of view. Gregory also adds some humor and also depth by developing political faction among Living Dead Society. And it's interesting how death can affect both humans and the living dead. There are a number of funny moments, but those are balanced by tragic ones. There are some nice tributes in here to Romero as NOTLD serves as the touchstone of this film. There's also nods to other genres in here as well. Raising Stony Mayhall gets a rating of 8 out of 10.
