Move over, BTS: After the Stateside success of the South Korean boy band , it’s now time for K-pop girl group Blackpink to stage their US takeover. Just when fans around the world thought BLACKPINK couldn’t get any bigger, the record-smashing all-female K-Pop group has proved them wrong. With a bang. Blackpink brought K-pop to Coachella. According to Koreaboo, Jisoo, Jennie, Rose and Lisa had put on a great show for their fans, dubbed Blinks.
What do Destiny’s Child and Psy have in common? They both just had one of their record-setting songs overtaken by pop music’s latest big thing: Blackpink, an all-female K-pop group whose new single, Kill This Love,” is setting impressive milestones within the music industry.
BLACKPINK started 2019 with a major YouTube accomplishment. The group’s “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” music video reached 600 million views by Jan. 13, about half a year after its premiere, making them first K-pop group to hit such a milestone so quickly. The only other Korean acts to have a music video surpass 600 million views are BTS and viral phenomenon Psy.
Jennie became the first member of BLACKPINK to release a solo song in November 2018. Jennie spoke out about her decision to release the tune, conveniently titled “SOLO,” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
The group’s North American tour kicks off in Los Angeles at The Forum on April 17, in between their Coachella performance dates on April 12 and 19, which marks the first-ever performance from an all-female K-pop group in its 20 years.
According to Billboard , it’s the highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 song by a female K-pop group everrrr. It opened at number 55 in June 2018. They also debuted at number one on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart.

The women’s talents are backed by Interscope, which signed Blackpink in 2018, partnering with the South Korean music company YG Entertainment to manage the group and produce and release their music. Blackpink has netted a string of successes since signing with Interscope, from their recent chart momentum to their coming arena tour of the States, which kicks off Wednesday in Los Angeles.
And its single of the same name came in at No. 41 on the Hot 100 — the highest debut ever by a K-pop girl group. The red hot international group, which is managed by YG Entertainment, has so far released an album and three EPs since debuting in 2016.

Fans of the South Korean pop group, called “Blinks,” loved every second of the set, and the performance was even live-streamed on a large screen in New York’s Times Square at night. BTS might be a bigger act, and 2NE1 might have covered similar terrain before them. But no other K-pop group could probably have handled a Coachella gig quite as well.
BLACKPINK will kick off the US leg of their In Your Area world tour on 12 April. Beginning with a headline-making appearance on both weekends at Coachella (making them the first K-Pop act to play the Californian festival), the group will play a series of arenas across the US and Canada before heading to Europe and Australia.
